1. Type ping websitename.com in ur command prompt.ping will contact a website and returns you a result.sometimes the larger websites wont reply for PING.you can use 2nd method(WHOIS system).
2.use public websites like domain tools.com, whois.net r networksolutions.com. this will give you the most information about the particular site. just try it..
